The Exeter Demons got their BUAFL season underway with a 13-12 victory against the Swansea Titans on Sunday 13th November. Following their memorable play-off run last year, the Demons were eager to show that their Cinderella story was for real and faced a stern challenge in the Titans, who had finished a respectable 3-5 the previous season.

However, Exeter showed no sign of opening day nerves. The Demons defense forced Swansea to go three and out on their first possession. With their new look “Wildcat” offense, Exeter took the ball and drove down the field, with 3rd year Quarterback Finlay Brown scoring on a designed run play. Kicker Jamie Sancto knocked the extra point through and the Demons led 7-0. It was about to get even better for the away team.

On the next series, the Exeter defense forced the Titans running back to fumble. Linebacker Josh Berg scooped up the loose ball and ran it into the opposing end zone for a defensive score. The ensuing extra point was blocked and at the end of the first quarter, the Demons were up 13-0. The Titans were shocked from the early scores but Exeter could not take advantage of their vulnerable opponents. Penalties against both offense and defense littered the second quarter of play.
